"I just love driving a truck, having the freedom of the open road and effectively being my own boss. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do."
When did you join?May 2016. I was one of the first two Car to Lorry candidates, appointed from eighty potential candidates who applied for the pilot opportunity.
Why did you choose Samworth Brothers?I had always wanted to drive articulated LGVs (Large goods vehicles) but been prohibited from pursuing this dream because of the cost of training (typically in excess of £3,000).
When I saw the Samworth Brothers Supply Chain Academy advert offering the opportunity to train on the programme I jumped at the chance to apply.
What career progression opportunities are there? The programme does more than just get candidates their professional licences. The Academy is passionate about making drivers the best in the industry and develops drivers’ skills beyond licence acquisition as well as providing an extensive mentoring programme.
This enables drivers to build their confidence and experience to take on more challenging runs. Beyond driving, the Transport Operation offers other opportunity to develop in supervisory and administrative functions.
