Tamar Foods

We are a large scale manufacturer of fresh chilled, own label foods, focusing on three main areas: hot eating savoury pastry pies & savoury slices, pasties & rolls.

About Tamar Foods

We supply most of the UK’s leading retailers including Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and The Co-operative.

Established as an independent business in 1999, Tamar Foods continues to grow and expand. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our state of the art bakery in Cornwall employs 500 people.

The company boasts a diverse range of process capabilities, equipping us to make a multitude of savoury products. In contrast, our exceptional hand crafting skills allow us to bake small batches of traditional pastry foods.

Tamar Foods makes 23.7 million hand-crimped and machine-made pies in a year.
In making our products we use over 24 thousand tonnes per annum of locally sourced ingredients.

Our business

We have won many awards over the years and 2014 wins include a Gold Award at The Grocer’s Own Label Food and Drink Awards for our Tesco Finest Shortcrust Scotch Steak Pie and a Silver Award for our Tesco Finest Steak & Burgundy Tin Pie. At this year’s British Pie Awards, we won bronze awards for the Co-operative Loved by Us Shortcrust Roast Chicken & Gravy Pie and for the Co-operative Loved by Us Hand-crimped Cornish Pasty.

Our People

We pride ourselves on our long service: nearly 30% of our staff have been with us for more than ten years. We are a people focused business and place high importance on giving praise and recognition. Our business has a structure of small department teams, enabling our focus to concentrate on developing the skills of our staff. Employees are encouraged to develop and progress their careers via the Samworth Academy which offers on-site training and Learning at Work events.

Community & environment

Our business and employees are proud to support a number of charities, locally and nationally. In 2013 we raised £10,000 for Macmillan & Ellie’s Haven via the Samworth Charity Challenge and donated over £10,500 to other causes. Our ‘Nurturing Excellence’ initiative provides a real work context placement programme for A-Level students by offering site visits and curriculum related projects. We are a zero to waste land-fill site, with all our food waste goes to anaerobic digestion. We also recycle all our waste cardboard and always use fully sustainable palm oil.
