Exactly six months to the day from when the digger first broke the ground for the construction of the new Bradgate Bakery - Ashton Green site, the very first sandwich has rolled off the production line!
On Wednesday 10th September, Paul Old, Production Director at Bradgate Bakery, picked a Ploughman's sandwich off the line, and congratulated everyone who has worked so hard to get the site built and production up and running in record time. Full production started in early October with 300 people now working at the bakery.
Construction started on the 11.4 acre site near to Bradgate Bakery on March 10th, and since then the site has developed rapidly into the impressive new purpose built bakery we see today, which will help deliver Samworth Brothers’ growth in salads and sandwiches.
“It is fantastic to see the new Bradgate – Ashton Green site fully operational just six months after we started construction, a testament to everyone who worked so hard to achieve this,” said Paul Davey, Managing Director, Bradgate Bakery.
The site features some of the latest environmental technologies including solar panels on the roof, and is the first Samworth Brothers site to use renewable energy to generate on-site power.
