The Grocer Own Label Food and Drink AwardsA number of businesses saw their Tesco Finest products take gold and silver awards in The Grocer Own Label Food and Drink Awards at a ceremony in London in May. The Gold Award in the Savoury Pies category went to Tamar Food’s Tesco Finest 550g Slow Cooked Scotch Steak Pie and the Silver Award in the same category to a Tesco Finest Steak and Burgundy Pie, also from Tamar Foods.
There were also Gold Awards for products from Walkers Midshire Foods (Tesco Finest British Pork Spicy Chorizo Style Burgers – Meatballs and Burgers category) and Kensey Foods (Tesco Finest Heritage Raspberry Panna Cottas – Premium Pot Desserts category).
The ‘Sammies’At the annual ‘Sammies’, organised by the British Sandwich Association, the ‘New Sandwich of the Year’ award in the Premium category was won by Waitrose for its Steak and Long Clawson Stilton Baguette made by Melton Foods.
Melton Foods Technical Manager Richard Midgley also won the Technical Excellence Award, which recognises work being done by technologists to advance systems and working practices across the sandwich industry.
Bradgate Bakery was pleased to be part of Tesco’s success at the awards. Tesco won the Sandwich Multiple Retailer of the Year award and Tesco Petrol Filling Stations won the Sandwich Marketing Award, while Melton Foods shared in the success of Waitrose who won the Convenience Retailer of the Year Award.
