Walkers Sausage Co, part of Samworth Brothers, is collaborating with Tesco on its Farm to Fork initiative which aims to help children have a better relationship with food, and to get them interested in where food comes from. Thirty five children from Eastfield Primary School in Leicester recently visited the Walker Sausage Co site as part of the initiative.

The children and their teachers were met by Mrs Sausage before visiting the new Innovation Centre at Walkers Sausage Co. Here they learnt about the ingredients used in Walkers sausages, and were given a sausage making demonstration from the New Product Development team. A few children had a chance to make their own sausages, while others designed their own sausage recipe.

The children also saw manufacturing and packing processes.  Their morning was rounded off with lunch in the site restaurant. “The children really enjoyed learning about how sausages are made,” said Mrs Litchfield, their teacher. “It is great to be part of such an important initiative; teaching local children about how food they love, such as sausages, are made,” added Steve Envis, Manufacturing Manager, Walkers Sausage Co.
