Melton Foods has topped the Efficiency Initiative category at the 2016 National Recycling Awards. Hygiene Manager Colin Wright received the prize from England Rugby star Kyran Bracken as judges said Melton Foods won the award by demonstrating its effective strategy and tangible improvement: “Our category was designed to recognise applied fresh thinking and reorganised operations to make them more efficient in terms of recycling,” says Colin.

In a group of no less than 14 finalists Melton faced stiff competition from industry giants Biffa Waste Management and Foresight Group: “We were delighted to be in the final but when we saw the likes of Biffa we didn’t really expect to win,” smiles Colin.

Now the Melton Foods team is embarking on its Cultivate campaign to build on this success: “Collaboration is a key theme for year two,” says Colin, “where we’ll extend the social impact of the strategy by fostering strong community partnerships.”
