Supporting local charities and youth employment

All the businesses around the Samworth Brothers’ Group are actively engaged in supporting local and national charities through fundraising and volunteering. Many have long standing relationships with their chosen charities, and have raised thousands of pounds and given many hours of time to support their causes.

For example, Westward Laboratories recently raised money for Callington Food Bank in Cornwall and Bradgate Bakery has started working with b-inspired, a neighbourhood based charity in Leicester offering support and donations for community events and services.

Leicestershire based businesses have worked with Leicestershire Cares for many years, with staff regularly volunteering on projects; anything from decorating a local school to giving employment advice to teenagers in care.

Samworth Brothers is also a member of Business in the Community, which for the last 30 years has been forging relationships between businesses and local communities.  As part of this Samworth Brothers has a commitment to providing work experience and employment opportunities for local young, disadvantaged people.

Tamar Foods has for the past year successfully worked with social enterprise organisation The Employment Academy (TEA) to provide career advice and job opportunities for unemployed young people.  Ginsters, Kensey Foods and Walker & Son now also on board with TEA and Blueberry Foods through its ‘Breaking the Cycle’ programme has successfully given local young people work placements to enhance their career prospects.
