Management Accountant

Start date: August 2006
Location: Callington, Cornwall

“When I was a student, I worked weekends at one of Samworth Brothers' sites in Cornwall on the hand line and then went on to operate the ovens. I was studying Human Biosciences at Plymouth University. I joined the company full time in 2010 as a KPI Co-ordinator.
I joined the company full time in 2010 as a KPI Co-ordinator, involved in analysing the amount of finished product that we were disposing of. I also had to find out why this was happening and what measures we could put in place to prevent this waste. When I was in this role, I improved the procedure for investigating our work in progress waste from a weekly system to a live system.

After a couple of years I became a Planner and Scheduler, getting involved in a planning project and scheduling customer orders in the bakery.  Then, in November 2013, I moved across to the accounts department as a Bakery Accountant. I started my AAT training (Association of Accounting Technicians) in September 2014 and then in early 2015 was promoted to Management Accountant. What’s great about working for Samworth Brothers is that the Group is development oriented so, if you want to progress in your career, you will always be supported.

Other training I have been on includes the Samworth Brothers development scheme, a project management course, and NVQ Level 2 in Lean continuous improvement.

I have taken part in the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenges in 2013 and 2015 and was lucky enough to meet the Brownlee brothers! I am already in training for the 2017 event.”
