“I began my 12-month Industrial Placement scheme with Bradgate Development. I joined as part of the New Product Development (NPD) team. One project I was given was looking at the range of Christmas products across the market. As part of this, I analysed competitor products and their marketing campaigns. I worked on this with another IP student and we shared our findings with the senior team at Bradgate.
I’ve just started working at Kensey Foods in Cornwall, a business that makes desserts. My role here is to work out how products created by the NPD team can be scaled up for mass production.
I’m studying for a degree in Food Marketing and Business Economics at Reading University and will graduate in 2018. The year I am spending with Samworth Brothers is helping me to understand a great deal more about the food industry.
It’s also giving me a better work ethic and is preparing me for the future. For example, the training we IP students receive is invaluable in teaching me such things as interview skills and how to present myself.Since July I’ve gained a great deal of experience and, the great thing about working in two completely different companies is I can see first-hand the different challenges they have to overcome and the different constraints they face. It’s also good to have exposure to two diverse product sectors – sandwiches and desserts. I would love the opportunity to come back and work for Samworth Brothers once I’ve graduated.”
