Supporting Our Community
All of our employees are encouraged to work with the local community. By using ‘Business in the Community’ we not only give back to society, but have the opportunity to motivate employees and help develop interpersonal and team participation skills.
Some examples of our involvement in the community are highlighted below, ranging from working with the homeless, by participating in soup runs with the Salvation Army; to working with schools in many different ways.
We encourage food safety in the young. Every year the Food Standards Agency designates a week to look at themes around food safety. During this week we visit local school to deliver food safety presentations in conjunction with exercises and laboratory tours.
A very different involvement with schools is a project called ‘Right to Read’ which promotes the importance of literacy in young children. This has been set up due to around a quarter of eleven year olds in Devon and Cornwall finding it difficult to reach the required standard for their age group.
