The Earl of Sandwich gave his name to this snack in the 18th Century after he requested a meal of meat held between slices of bread to be brought to the card table during a gambling game. The popularity of the sandwich has soared and today the market is worth £3bn.
Three of our businesses, Bradgate Bakery, Melton Foods and The Sandwich Centre, supply own label sandwiches to the multiple retailers and also under our own Ginsters and Deli Club brands. The attention to detail needed to produce 3 million sandwiches a week to the same high standard whilst meeting customer orders in full is a testament to the commitment of our people and the culture of the business.
