Samworth Brothers Supply Chain has been recognised for its commitment to driver training, with a major award at the transport industry ‘Oscars’.

SBSC was presented with the Training Award at the recent Motor Transport awards, for its work in developing its Driver Academy. The judges commended the business saying in the award citation; “Samworth Brothers Supply Chain launched its Driver Academy with two aims: to ensure its driver workforce kept performing at a high level; and to tackle the shortage of qualified drivers across the industry with a number of routes into a driving career for new entrants. An 11-strong driver training team is now able to take a car driver successfully through to a category C+E licence, using four dedicated training vehicles.”

Four routes of entry are available through the academy – Warehouse to Wheels, Car to Lorry, Bakery to Wheels and the Newly Qualified Driver Programme.

The national award comes after Samworth Brothers Supply Chain drivers also excelled in the Microlise Driver Awards this year. Rafal Kolanko won the overall competition receiving the 2017 Microlise Driver of the Year Award having also won the Medium Distance category, while Laura Farnsworth was crowned Young Driver of the Year. Pete Cochrane, another SBSC driver,  was shortlisted for the Extra Mile award. Both Rafal and Laura became drivers in the last 18 months, graduating through the SBSC Driver Academy’s Warehouse to Wheels and Car to Wheels programmes respectively. Laura Farnsworth was presented with the award on her first anniversary of joining the Car to Wheels programme.
