Argyle Community Trust, the official charity for Plymouth Argyle Football Club, has received a £12,000 award from the Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund. The funding will enable the Trust to launch the highly successful Premier League(PL) Kicks programme in Callington from September 2017. PL Kicks is one of the flagship programmes offered by the Argyle Community Trust and also one of the longest-running, with the central objective of reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in areas without easy access to professional football coaching. It has been active in Plymouth for the last nine years and over the last 18 months, it has been extending its reach into Cornwall.  The project uses football and multi-sports as a tool to break down barriers between young people and authority.  It has been proven to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour during session times over the last decade.

Mark Lovell, Head of Community at Argyle Community Trust, said “We are incredibly thankful to have received funding from the Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund which will enable us to deliver PL Kicks in Callington.  We are delighted to be working alongside Ginsters, at a local level, on this project; they’ve been fantastic in their support.” Paul Berne, Finance Director at Ginsters, said “We are delighted that our funding has enabled Argyle Community Trust to extend the reach of its successful PL Kicks programme into Ginsters home town of Callington.  Sport, and football in particular, provides a powerful platform to engage young people and I’m sure the team at Argyle Community Trust will make a huge success of the programme in our local community.”
