Samworth Brothers has been shortlisted for a prestigious Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management Award for its company-wide 4R environmental management plan.

The 4R Plan – which stands for ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover’ - promotes good environmental management practice across the company’s Leicestershire sites and elsewhere.  Recent achievements have included achieving zero waste to landfill status at all the company’s manufacturing sites, reducing fuel usage by over one million litres since 2009 (despite significant business growth during the period), and achieving record recycling levels across the group in 2016 with 77% of waste being reused or recycled.
Samworth Brothers Group Sustainability Manager Deborah Carlin said;  “We are very proud of our 4R Plan which has helped us to raise awareness of our impact on the environment across the Group and exceed our recycling targets.  We look at every aspect of our operation and ensure we reuse and recycle as much as possible – whether that be cardboard, plastic, metal, wooden pallets, and even the rubber in wellington boots that are used on our sites. It makes sense for the environment and as a business to be as efficient and sustainable as possible.”
Organised by, the Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management recognises and rewards those striving for excellence across the waste, resource and recycling sector and is regarded as one of the most prestigious event in the waste and recycling calendar. Samworth Brothers Group is shortlisted for an award in the Waste Management Category.  Samworth Brothers’ business Melton Foods, based in Melton Mowbray, has also separately been shortlisted for a Zero Waste Platinum Award in the same awards.
Finalists include commercial organisations, local authorities, third sector groups and individual recycling champions with the winners to be announced at the awards ceremony on 18 May in London.
