Which apprenticeship scheme did you take?
I did an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture in 2014. Then
I went on an Advanced Apprenticeship in Food Manufacturing Excellence in 2016 which built on my skills and, last year, I completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Food Industry Skills & Technical Management which prepared me for a management role.
How has your career progressed as a result?
I joined Bradgate Bakery after coming to this country as a school leaver, beginning as
a Machine Operator on the production line. Two years later, I was promoted to Team Leader. The company became aware that engineering was my real passion, so I was chosen to go on day release to study at Leicester College where I attained a BTEC Diploma
in electrical and mechanical maintenance. I am now a Trainee Engineering Manager with responsibility for a team of maintenance engineers whose job it is to keep production going and carry out planned maintenance.
What advice would you give anyone considering an apprenticeship?
What you put in, you get out. If you work hard and show both determination and loyalty, then you will be rewarded.
What have you enjoyed most?
The opportunity the company has given me to develop as an engineer and a manager. I really appreciate the fact that they are giving me every chance to succeed at what I do.
How do you see your career developing from here?
I have set myself a goal of becoming a Site Engineering Manager within the next five to seven years.
