Start date: July 2008
“I began working within Samworth Brothers on the Industrial Placement scheme in July 2008 where I worked as a Process Technologist. I absolutely loved this job and decided this is what I wanted to do for a living!
After six months, I moved to another of their sites to work as a Quality Auditor (QA). After my 12 months’ placement was up, I was asked to stay on and work another three months before going back to my final year at Newcastle University. I duly accepted and enjoyed further projects within the QA department.
In February 2010, whilst I was in my last year at University, I got a phone call from the Managing Director who asked if I wanted to go back and have a full time position as a Senior QA. I spent six months in this position. I then moved to another company within the Group as a Process Technologist. Two and a half years later I was promoted to Senior Process Development Technologist, followed by Trainee Area Manager and now I am the Area Manager of the Process Department. This role involves managing the critical path which means I regularly need to work within tight deadlines to ensure that products are successfully launched on time into store.
I have had lots of interesting opportunities since working within Samworth Brothers, including spending a week at Kensey Foods in Cornwall. I have also been on a large number of training days which include days at suppliers and have taken part in the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge. Being within the Process Department means that I normally spend a few days a week out the office in London, at our retail customers, meaning I get lots of customer contact.”
