“I began my career as a graduate trainee with British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) where I worked on guns, vehicles and aircraft wings. I then became a project engineer on missile systems. Previously I had studied Manufacturing Management and Technology at Bradford University.
I decided to move from defence to the food industry and took a job with another large food manufacturer, which at that time was looking for people from the pharmaceutical, petrochemical and defence industries to move into food. I worked with them for two years.
I started work with Samworth Brothers 16 years ago at Melton Foods. I moved to Kettleby Foods 10 years ago in Production. In 2017; I was offered a three-month secondment in Quality Assurance and this turned into a permanent role. I am responsible for all aspects of Food Safety and ensuring the quality of the food we produce is consistent.
I manage a team of QAs who audit to ensure quality standards and food safety requirements are being adhered to. This team works around the clock, as our operations are 24/7.
The thing I most enjoy is that I am constantly learning in this role and have about three or four projects on the go at any one time. For example, one of the recent projects I have been involved in is allergen controls and maintaining robust systems that everyone can understand and use.
Looking to the future, I need to broaden both my process management and technical services experience. I know that Samworth Brothers will support me in this and will help me change to a new role so I can achieve this. That’s not the only reason I enjoy working here – it’s also because Samworth Brothers are the Rolls Royce of food manufacturers with modern, purpose-built facilities that are great environments to work in.”
