“Prior to joining Samworth Brothers I worked for a ready meals manufacturer for nine years, joining initially within a sales ledger role, progressing to management accountant. It was during my time there that I studied for my Association of Accounting Technicians exams as well as gaining my CIMA qualification (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
My first role within the Samworth Brothers Group was at Brooksby Foods. I joined in 2013 as a management accountant and quickly progressed to Finance Manager during the three and a half years I spent there. After my time at Brooksby I then moved to Melton Foods as Finance Manager and stayed in that role for two and a half years. My most recent move was in September 2019 to Bradgate Bakery as Finance Manager across both the Madeline Road and Ashton Green sites.
In my current role I am responsible for the finance function and I lead the 13-strong finance team. This not only means I get involved in all elements of reporting but I have a duty to challenge all financial metrics of the business, both current and forward looking. This gives me the opportunity to play a part in the strategic direction of the business which is really exciting.
I meet up with the other Finance Managers from around the Group twice a year where we have a two-day training session structured around areas of focus for the Group and up and coming projects. This is a great opportunity to meet with my peers from around the Group and it really promotes collaboration and the sharing of best practice.
One of the main reasons I enjoy working for Samworth Brothers is the opportunity you are given for progression if you are ambitious, and the level of support you are provided with along the way. I started my journey here as a management accountant and now I am leading the finance function for the largest site in the Group.”
