The Role
We are recruiting an Environmental Officer to join our team on a permanent basis based at Saladworks in Leicester, however covering duties across our Ready Meals business.

The purpose of your role is to support the Head of HSE for Meals to evaluate the performance of projects and the environmental management system. You will monitor performance of the site on energy and water efficiency along with waste management, identify and plan environmental related activities, campaigns and awareness training. You will analyse environmental issues and where appropriate report recommendations for improvement and be responsible for bringing environmental matters to life on site and engage staff. You will also liaise with the Environment Agency, local charities/community groups and other organisations with similar interests, where appropriate.

In further detail your key duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist the Head of HSE for Meals to develop and implement the sites environmental 4R action plan, compliance processes and procedures to meet Site and Group Environmental targets
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned to ISO 14001
  • Assist the site to comply with the environmental permit, external audits and relevant legislation
  • Assisting our suppliers/manufacturers meet our environmental policies and practices
  • Deliver environmental reporting information to Head of HSE for Meals
  • Encourage best practice within Samworth Brothers companies by taking part in the 4R Plan
  • Assessing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to the Head of HSE for Meals
  • Work with the Group Responsible Business Team to confirm that materials, ingredients and other consumables are ethically or environmentally sourced
  • Providing environmental training to staff, where required
  • Keep up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives, reporting on impact to the site and making recommendations for action

The Successful Individual
To be successful in the role, you will have the following required skills, experience, knowledge and qualifications:

  • National / professional qualification in Environmental Management or similar subject or at least 2 years relevant experience in a similar role
  • IEMA Practioner Member
  • ISO14001 Internal Auditor qualification
  • Previous Environmental experience ideally gained within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in planning and implementing projects
  • Experience of working with and developing partnerships
  • Experience of giving presentations and/or facilitating workshops
  • Experience in report writing, data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of ISO14001:2004 and 2015 standard
  • Up to date knowledge of environmental legislation, such as packaging regulations
