Based on a 10 acre site in rural Leicestershire, Melton Foods has been developing and creating by hand premium, high quality Food to Go and Entertaining ranges since 1998. We supply premium tier products to some of the major UK retailers and Food to Go outlets, in both retailer own brand and the UK’s largest sandwich brand, Ginsters.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and with almost 800 employees, we are a major employer in Leicester. The Role

We are currently looking for Food Production Operatives to join our team on a permanent basis across High Care, Preparation, Intake and Despatch, over various days and various shift patterns, including AM (6am-2pm), PM (2pm-10pm) and Nights (10pm-6am).

Production Operatives have responsibility for carrying out a number of manual and non-manual related tasks, ensuring quality efficiency and high standards of production at all times.

Duties within the roles will include:

Intake: 

  • Taking in deliveries and checking deliveries
  • Checking batching codes
  • Temperature checks
  • Order picking, stock control and stock rotation
  • Checking deliveries against specifications / quality standards

Preparation:  

  • Debagging of ingredients
  • Hand mixing
  • Accurate weighing of ingredients
  • Operating labeller
  • Use of mechanical mixers and slicers

High Care:

  • Weighing to specification
  • Dobbing and spreading of ingredients
  • Accurate salad placement
  • Line Servicing and Bread Servicing – ensuring line supplied with sufficient ingredients and correct bread
  • Machine minding
  • Skilleting, cutting and wrapping

Despatch:

  • Daily use of machinery including Trepko, Labelling, Flow Wrap, Outer Coding System, Sealer.
  • Carry out tasks within the Despatch process
  • Adhere to strict hygiene standards
  • Regularly and consistently job rotate
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are correctly followed

The Successful Individual

To be successful in any of these role, you will have the following required skills and experience;

  • Experience gained from a similar role from within food manufacturing would be advantageous
  • Ability to understand and operate machinery. Experience of operating machinery would be desirable
  • Experience of working accurately in a fast paced environment, meeting tight deadlines
  • The ability to comply with strict working instructions such as adherence to Bakery Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP and Food Health & Safety
  • Ability to speak, read and write clearly in English as well as good numeracy skills (you must be able to pass entry numeracy and literacy tests)
  • A competent computer user with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
