We produce premium hot and cold pies, pasties, rolls, slices and quiche. We also run the famous Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe in the heart of Melton Mowbray.

Our bakeries have been making pastry products since 1824. 

We are the biggest savoury pastry producer in the UK and our Ginsters  brand is the market leader. Tamar Foods, Ginsters, Walker & Son and Kensey Foods produce premium hot and cold pies, pasties, rolls, slices and quiche.

We are proud of our food heritage. We are members of the Cornish Pasty Association and the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, and restored and run the famous Ye Old Pork Pie Shoppe in Melton Mowbray.

Melton Mowbray Pork Pies have been awarded Protected Geographical Indication status by the EU.

Savoury Pastry

We make 50% of all the UK’s pork pies and 85% of the UK’s authentic Melton Mowbray Pork Pies.

It’s the tasty tender pork, the rich pastry, and the natural jelly that go into a traditional Melton Mowbray Pork Pie that make this pie a firm favourite with the nation.

Pork Filling

We use 100% British pork in our Melton Mowbray Pork Pies, sourcing our meat from suppliers who meet the highest standards of technical and ethical requirements and who share our food values. Our skilled team of on-site butchers ensure that only the finest cuts of meat go into our pork pies.

The Pastry

Our unique pastry is still created by hand at our dedicated site. After we have encased the pork filling in this delicious pastry, the pies are then hand crimped and traditionally baked without using a supporting tin or hoop. This gives the classic bow-sided shape of a true Melton Mowbray Pork Pie.

The Jelly

The test of an authentic Melton Mowbray Pork Pie is the delicious taste and succulent texture of its jelly. This is made from simmering pigs’ trotters and adding gelatine to the strained liquid. Once the pies have cooled to 40-50°C, the natural bone stock jelly is poured into a hole made in the pastry lid.

Finest Ingredients

We ensure all our raw materials meet our strict specifications, and our suppliers are regularly inspected. Tight process controls, hygiene regimes and food safety controls are adhered to at every stage to ensure every pie is of the highest quality. No pie leaves our bakery if it is not pie perfection.
