SUPPORTING THE MILITARY VS CANCER FIELD GUN PULL
Supporting the Military vs Cancer Field Gun Pull
Over the past two months, teams from across the country have come together for an extraordinary challenge – the Military vs Cancer Field Gun Pull, a 900-mile journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End, raising funds and awareness for cancer charities.
The team pulled a fully laden Boer War Field Gun weighing 1.5 tonnes entirely by hand, completing their remarkable journey on 31 October at Land’s End. Along the way, they were met with overwhelming public support, including a visit from a serving member of the Australian military, who paused to take a photo with his mum as the team passed through Cornwall.
At Samworth Brothers, we were proud to support the team’s incredible effort.
Special thanks go to James Palmer, Operations Manager for Van Sales – Food for Now, who coordinated daily sandwich drops from Tiverton to Land’s End to keep the participants fuelled along the final stretch of their journey.
Our colleagues at Samworth Brothers Cornwall also donated £200 to the team’s fundraising efforts, helping them reach their ambitious total of £150,000 for Military vs Cancer.
This support came together after an approach from David McIntyre, a former colleague whose brother Sean, still part of our team at The Cornwall Bakery, took part in the challenge. Their family’s personal connection to the cause – having lost both parents to cancer – made this effort even more meaningful.
The Military vs Cancer Field Gun Pull is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together with determination, compassion and community spirit. We’re proud to have played a small part in such a remarkable journey.
