THE SAMWORTH BROTHERS BIG BUILD PROJECT

From Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd June, more than 130 Samworth Brothers colleagues came together to take part in something special: transforming the garden space at Eyres Monsell Community Centre in Leicester.
This centre plays a vital role in the local community with a library, a variety of classes, social activities and event for people of all ages, food education and cooking projects in one of the UK’s most deprived areas.
Working in partnership with Splash Projects, colleagues from across our sites – from Cornwall to Worksop – rolled up their sleeves to bring the centre’s outdoor space to life. What was once an underused area is now a welcoming, accessible garden with shaded seating, food-growing beds, and wildlife-friendly features to support wellbeing and community.
The space was officially opened today in a ribbon-cutting celebration led by Simon Wookey, CEO of Samworth Brothers, and Tracey Inchley, Community Centre Service Delivery Manager.
“You’ve made my dream come true,” said Tracey. “We can now do so much more in this garden. Thank you to Samworth Brothers and Splash Projects for everything.”
Jules Richards from The Conservation Volunteers added:
“We can now grow more, give more away, and cook more for the community. You’ve saved us years of work – thank you.”
Colleagues from all parts of the business came to volunteer. As Simon Ng, Group Energy Manager shared:
“If I could sum up this experience in one word, it would be together. This project goes beyond sustainability – it’s about giving back and showing what’s possible when people pull in the same direction.”
We’re incredibly proud of everyone who gave their time and energy to this project – and of the strong partnership with Splash Projects, whose leadership made it all possible.
This garden is more than just a space. It’s a symbol of what can happen when people come together with purpose.
