SOLAR PROJECT REACHES MAJOR MILESTONE AT SALADWORKS
Solar project reaches major milestone at Saladworks
The first of more than 1,000 solar panels have been installed on the rooftop of Saladworks, part of Samworth Brothers, marking another significant photovoltaic project and the largest of its kind at one of our sites to date.
Once fully operational, the system is expected to generate around 450,000 kWh of renewable energy each year. This will provide energy that Saladworks would otherwise need to purchase while supporting the site’s long-term efficiency and resilience.
To mark this important stage of the project, Meals Managing Director Kerrie Bailey visited Saladworks to see the installation progress alongside James Fuller, Principal Project Manager from technology provider Evo Energy.
Kerrie said: “I’m incredibly proud to see this project coming to life at site. This is a milestone moment in our sustainability journey at Meals and at Group level for Samworth Brothers.
“This investment directly supports our sustainability agenda and target commitments. This project plays an important part in delivering this.”
The project has been more than a year in the making, involving detailed planning, approvals and close collaboration across teams.
Simon Healey, Site Lead for Saladworks, said: “The team should be incredibly proud, there’s been a huge amount of work behind the scenes to get us here. From planning approvals to installation, this has been over a year in the making, and it’s fantastic to see it finally come to life through their collaboration and commitment.
“Hopefully this becomes a real success story for Saladworks that other bakeries within Samworth Brothers can replicate across the Group.”
As well as supporting Samworth Brothers’ wider sustainability commitments, the project is expected to bring clear operational benefits for Saladworks.
The installation marks another step forward in Samworth Brothers’ sustainability journey, demonstrating how investment in renewable energy can support both environmental progress and the future needs of our sites.
