Engineering apprentices welcomed at Saladworks

A new intake of engineering apprentices have been welcomed at Saladworks as part of Samworth Brothers’ ongoing commitment to developing skills for the future.

Six apprenticeship roles have been successfully filled across the Group, with a mix of school leavers, college students and internal colleagues joining the four-year programme.

The programme offers a Level 3 qualification in electrical and mechanical engineering, alongside hands-on experience across the business. It also supports the continued development of technical skills across Samworth Brothers, reflecting the growing importance of automation, smart factory technology and multi-skilled engineering capability.

Saladworks Site Lead Simon Healey, who began his career as an apprentice before joining Samworth Brothers, said the programme is especially meaningful to him.

“This programme is close to my heart, because without that opportunity I probably wouldn’t be doing what I do today.

“A good apprenticeship gives you real experience, recognised qualifications and a broad understanding of the business. I’m very proud to be able to support the next generation.”

As part of the recruitment session, apprentices already on the programme had the opportunity to share their experiences and present their work.

Simon added: “It was great to see apprentices already in the programme sharing their experiences and presenting their work. That confidence shows the value of investing in people, not just for today, but for the future of our business.

“This programme is central to our growth story, because those who come through are far more likely to stay with us and develop their careers within the business over the long term.

“The programme is also critical to securing our long-term technical capabilities, especially in today’s rapidly changing world, where we need multi-skilled engineers.”

Kate Lee, Talent & Resourcing Manager, said: “We are grateful to Saladworks for hosting the FDEM recruitment this year, and really pleased that our programme is made up once again of a mix of internal and external applicants who will now go on to complete their qualification with us over the next four years.”

The new intake will now begin their apprenticeship journey, gaining the skills, knowledge and experience needed to support the future of engineering across Samworth Brothers.
