Samworth Brothers pioneers new health and safety qualification
Samworth Brothers has become the first business to internally run a new course from the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH). Candidates working through the Samworth SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) Technician programme, as well as colleagues from operational roles across the Group, are participating in a new IOSH Level 3 Certificate in Safety and Health for Business.
As pioneers of the new course, the Samworth Brothers team are also featuring in a new IOSH case study film highlighting how the new qualification can enhance career opportunities.
Alison Wright, Head of Health, Safety and Environment at Samworth Brothers Meals, said: “Health and safety is of paramount importance to us. We are investing in the Level 3 Qualification as part of our continuous quest to keep developing our people further.”
“I’m taking the Level 3 qualification as a form of upskilling and trying to better the foundation I have as a health and safety professional. The qualification is helping me to realise my ambition by furthering my knowledge, which will allow me to utilise a practical application within the business,” said John Pardbuck, Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Melton Foods.
Mark Taylor, Area Manager at Kettleby Foods, also explains in the film how the Level 3 qualification has helped his career. “Some years ago, a vacancy came up as a health and safety manager. I expressed an interest but at that point I was underqualified, so I requested that the company support me in gaining the relevant qualifications. The qualification helped me realise my ambitions by providing the foundations I can build upon, and hopefully lead on to other courses, to expand my knowledge.”
