“I’m a Quality Assurance (QA) Team Leader at Manton Wood. This means I work a rota of four days on, four days off, with 12-hour shifts. I’ve been here since 2017 and began my two-year apprenticeship in June 2021. The qualification I will receive is a Food Technology Level 3 diploma which is equivalent to A levels.
So far, I’ve learned about food and drink regulations, Health & Safety in food & drink, food science and the principles of microbiology. I will also be learning skills such as how to use IT to analyse and interpret data, how to carry out audits and how to investigate and resolve problems. It’s nearly all on-the-job learning, with a number of workshop days via Teams.
I was slightly apprehensive about embarking on this apprenticeship programme at the outset, but it’s absolutely the best decision I could have made for my career. With all these newly-gained abilities, I’m confident I will be able to make the next step up on my career ladder. I’m gaining so much insight and knowledge about the food-making industry and am thoroughly enjoying the learning journey I am on.”
