“I moved to the UK from Spain where I trained as a primary school teacher. I joined Bradgate Bakery, initially part time on the production line while I was supply teaching. I then decided to leave teaching and to join the QA team full time. I am now a QA Team Leader, leading a team of auditors.
My role is threefold: firstly, to check that technical standards are understood and met; secondly to ensure that all food safety, quality and legal requirements have been achieved; and thirdly, I work together with functional departments to make sure our KPI (Key Performance Indicator) targets have been reached.
During my time at Bradgate, I have been given the opportunity to attend a number of different courses related to the area I work in. I have successfully achieved HACCP* Level 3; Food Safety Management Level 4; Proficiency in Food Management Level 3 and IOSH* Managing Safely.
I am looking to start university later this year to study Food Science and Technology. This will give me the knowledge for the next stage in my career with Samworth Brothers which is, hopefully, to have a managerial position within the Technical department.
For anyone thinking of switching careers, Samworth Brothers is a great place to do that. After all, I used to be a teacher and now I am in the food industry.
